The small intersection graph relative to multiplication modules
Let $R$ be a commutative ring and let $M$ be an $R$-module. We define the small intersection graph $G(M)$ of $M$ with all non-small proper submodules of $M$ as vertices and two distinct vertices $N, K$ are adjacent if and only if $Ncap K$ is a non-small submodule of $M$. In this article, we investigate the interplay between the graph-theoretic properties of $G(M)$ and algebraic properties of $M...
full textIntersection of modules related to Macdonald's polynomials
This work studies the intersection of certain k-tuples of Garsia-Haiman Sn-modules Mµ. We recall that in [4], for µn, Mµ is defined as the linear span of all partial derivatives of a certain bihomogeneous polynomial ∆µ(X,Y) in the variables It has been conjectured that Mµ has n! dimensions and that its bigraded Frobenius characteristic is given by a renormalized version of Macdonald's polynomia...
full textCharacterisation of normed linear spaces with Mazur's intersection property
Normed linear spaces possessing the euclidean space property that every bounded closed convex set is an intersection of closed balls, are characterised as those with dual ball having weak * denting points norm dense in the unit sphere. A characterisation of Banach spaces whose duals have a corresponding intersection property is established. The question of the density of the strongly exposed po...
full textA Finite Model Property for Intersection Types
We show that the relational theory of intersection types known as BCD has the finite model property; that is, BCD is complete for its finite models. Our proof uses rewriting techniques which have as an immediate by-product the polynomial time decidability of the preorder ⊆ (although this also follows from the so called beta soundness of BCD). BCD is the relational theory of intersection types p...
full textOn Biorthogonal Systems and Mazur’s Intersection Property
We give a characterization of Banach spaces X containing a subspace with a shrinking Markushevich basis {xγ , fγ}γ∈Γ. This gives a sufficient condition for X to have a renorming with Mazur’s intersection property. A biorthogonal system in a Banach space X is a subset {xγ , fγ}γ∈Γ ⊂ X×X such that fγ(xγ′) = δγγ′ for γ, γ ′ ∈ Γ. The biorthogonal system {xγ, fγ}γ∈Γ in X is called fundamental if X =...
full textThe Mazur Intersection Property and Farthest Points
K. S. Lau had shown that a reflexive Banach space has the Mazur Intersection Property (MIP) if and only if every closed bounded convex set is the closed convex hull of its farthest points. In this work, we show that in general this latter property is equivalent to a property stronger than the MIP. As corollaries, we recapture the result of Lau and characterize the w*-MIP in dual of RNP spaces.
